Strictly Come Dancing fans' 'heartbroken' for Wynne Evans as they 'work out' joke with Katya Jones

Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans and Katya Jones went viral last weekend, after the Strictly pro appeared to shove Welsh opera star Wynne away as he tried to high five her

BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans have expressed their sympathy for Wynne Evans following his awkward interaction with Katya Jones. The duo became a talking point after footage from the BBC programme showed Katya seemingly pushing Wynne as he attempted to high-five her.

The misunderstanding was later clarified on It Takes Two, where they explained it was all in jest. A Twitter/X user suggested, "One explanation given to me was they were poking fun at other couples for all their hugging and kissing and that's why they can't say what the joke was."

Social media reactions were mixed, with one person commenting, "Wynne is being cancelled on social media and I find it heartbreaking," and continuing, "Anyone who has any sort of personality gets shut down these days. I don't believe he's a perv. I believe Katya when she says it was a joke."

Another chimed in: "For god's sake, she says there was no problem, he says there wasn't a problem. So there wasn't a problem. Why are ppl looking for stuff, when two adults say there no issues," reports Birmingham Live.

Following the viral moment, Katya came to the defence of the GoCompare star, asserting that he has been "portrayed as someone he is not" after an episode during Saturday's show saw her guiding his hand away from her waist.

On Saturday's show, Katya had brushed Wynne's hand away as he moved it across her waist, before snubbing his attempt at a high-five. The opera singer was a 20/1 chance when betting opened, but the leading bookmaker have had to cut his price all the way down to 9/2 and he is now the third favourite to dance for the last time on Sunday evening.

Paul Merson is again the favourite at 10/11 with Punam Krishan, who was bottom of last week's leaderboard, a 13/4 shot. UK Director at BetMGM, Sam Behar, said: "Paul Merson might be the favourite to leave Strictly this weekend but Wynne Evans certainly isn't without a chance of leaving."

"He looked a lively outsider a couple of weeks ago in the outright betting but the news this week certainly hasn't helped his chances and he's been very well-backed to exit on Sunday night. He opened up at 20/1 but is now just 9/2, with only Paul Merson (10/11) and Punam Krishan (13/4) shorter in the next elimination betting."

Strictly Come dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday and is on BBC iPlayer
