BBC Gladiators star Apollo opens up on romance rumours with co-star

Gladiators' Apollo has played down rumours of a romance with one of his fellow BBC stars, insisting he's not one to "kiss and tell".

Known off-screen as Alex Gray, the athlete joined his Gladiators co-stars Comet and Diamond on This Morning to chat about the highly-anticipated Gladiators final.

As they spoke to This Morning hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley about their love for the show and the injuries they've encountered, the topic soon turned to Apollo's reported romantic entanglements.

Speculation over a potential affair was sparked by Ben, who raised the question: "Can we talk about the romance between the Gladiators. Is there a little something something going on between you and Sabre?"

Chidingly, Apollo retorted: "You're going to make these two jealous," nodding towards Comet and Diamond who sat beside him, reports the Mirror.

Ben pressed further into the gossip after recalling an intimate "locker room" scene from the series, where Apollo and Sabre exchanged a hug.

Apollo deflected with humour, stating: "Hey look, Apollo doesn't kiss and tell, OK guys! We are great friends, she's an amazing woman just like all the other Gladiators are.

"But for everyone watching at home, Apollo is very much available; so Cat, your chances are still alive!"

Taken aback by his bold declaration, Cat playfully responded with: "Oh my goodness, it's getting bigger and bigger," before jesting: "The ego! The ego!"

A viewer commented on the omission of certain athletes on the ITV show, remarking: "So suspiciously no mention of Ben and Cat taking part in Gladiator trials which they mentioned a few times on yesterday's show?".

In addition, another viewer expressed regret that ITV hadn't revived Gladiators: "ITV must be kicking themselves that they didn't bring Gladiators back."

Adding to the discussion on romances and rivalries, all three Gladiators stars were in consensus that the competitors in the second series were of a higher standard than before.

Reflecting on the series as it draws to a close this weekend, Comet noted: "They've definitely upped their game. Because they saw it last year, they've gone away and trained as well. Everyone's levelled up and they're coming fierce and feisty," she said.

This Morning airs Mondays-Fridays from 10am on ITV1.
