Best pictures of King Charles and Queen Camilla on their 77th birthday trip to Wales
by Ellie Gosley · Wales OnlineThe King and Queen visited south Wales on a very wet and windy day for a series of engagements to mark King Charles' 77th birthday. The King and Queen Camilla first visited Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr for an event to celebrate the castle's 200th anniversary.
After meeting with members of the community, the King cut a birthday cake shaped like a castle. The royal couple also met crowds which had gathered outside the castle, while tucked under umbrellas. Recap live updates from the special visit here.
Following on from the trip to Cyfarthfa Castle, Queen Camilla visited Cyfarthfa Primary School where she joined pupils taking part in a guided reading programme, supported by local volunteers, and attended a school assembly.
The King made his way to Taffs Well to open Transport for Wales' (TfW) new £100m depot. The King appeared in high spirits on his 77th birthday despite the heavy rain, waving at schoolchildren who held up Union Jacks and Welsh flags as he drove a tram-train.
