Celebrity Gogglebox fans 'switch off' seconds into show and demand it's 'taken off air'
by Monde Mwitumwa, Frankie Collins · Wales OnlineFans of Celebrity Gogglebox were quick to hit the off switch on last night's episode (December 20) after they were left feeling misled by Channel 4.
The show, which has garnered a massive following with its Friday night slot, features either everyday folk or celebrity pairs giving their take on the week's television from across the UK.
Anticipation for a new instalment turned to frustration when viewers realised they were watching a repeat, with familiar faces like Gok Wan alongside Fearne Cotton and Martin with Roman Kemp revisiting TV segments from months prior.
"Sat down to watch the 'Brand New' #CelebrityGogglebox only to find out that it's actually just a compilation of stuff broadcast months ago. That's weak of Gogglebox," vented one disappointed viewer.
Another opted to change channels: "#Gogglebox Where is Gogglebox? Why have Ch4 put on a summer edition with so called Celebrities in it? Not good I'll watch No Time To Die. Thanks for nothing, Ch4."
A third expressed their irritation: "Really getting f***** off with the TV recently! EVERYTHING seems to be repeats! Got settled to watch Celeb Gogglebox thinking it was a new series, or a Christmas special! Oh how wrong am I! YET AGAIN ANOTHER REPEAT! Utter sh**e"
And yet another viewer criticised the false advertising: "#celebritygogglebox how can this be advertised as 'new celebrity gogglebox' it was basically filmed In the summer. Not up to date at all. A lot has happened since then."
Some fans also took issue with the celebrities' comments on US president Donald Trump after he appeared in one of the clips shown, , reports the Express.
"Oh FFS celebrities coming across all smarmy aren't we cool dissing Trump you make me puke," one viewer vented.
Other stars featured in the episode included Rylan Clark and his mum Linda; Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash; Shaun Ryder and Bez; Jane McDonald and her best friend Sue; Nick Grimshaw and his niece Liv; Rob Beckett and Tom Allen; Melanie C and her brother Paul plus Gyles Brandreth with Lulu.
Gogglebox airs Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4
