Great British Bake Off finalist, Ruby Bhogal, has shared the devastating news of her recent miscarriage, just weeks after discovering she was pregnant.

The talented baker, 35, who secured second place in the 2018 series of the Channel 4 show, opened up to her followers about grappling with feelings of "failure" and grief as she bravely discussed her loss from her kitchen.

Ruby discovered she was expecting while on a second honeymoon in Mexico with her husband, James Stewart. The couple got engaged in 2024. Tragically, she lost the baby before Christmas.

Sharing her sorrow on Instagram, she said: "This isn't the video we were hoping to be sharing with you today. I was hoping to be sharing a video with you all telling you how excited I was because James and I found out we were pregnant when we went away to Mexico at the end of last year."

She explained that they were "thrilled and elated" upon learning they were going to become parents, adding that her husband had been eager to start a family for "years", reports the Mirror.

Ruby continued: "But unfortunately, I had a miscarriage just before Christmas and I know I don't tend to share anything too deep and personal over here and I like to keep thing quite light, sassy and very cake heavy. But in truth, I didn't know how to come back on here and just start posting recipes and content like everything was ok."

Ruby revealed that she has been seeking a support network of other mothers who have experienced miscarriages, hoping to find solace and help in processing her grief.

Describing the ordeal as something that "destabilises you to your very core", she expressed: "And whilst I'm hoping this makes someone else feel less alone, I guess I'm also hoping that it does the same for me too."

She shared her hope for eventual clarity and acceptance of her grief, saying: "I'm hoping one day it gives me some sort of clarity on how to move forward and how to accept this grief, because right now I feel quite heartbroken and really lost, teamed with lots of endless questions about why?"

In an emotional confession, Ruby admitted feeling as though she had "failed" in some way, particularly when thinking about her husband and their future.

She went on to say: "And then there's that overarching feeling of failure. Like I failed myself and I failed James and I failed our future and I failed most importantly, our baby."

Concluding the video, Ruby asked her followers to "bear with" her as she navigates through her loss. She ended on a hopeful note, stating: "I will still continue and hold out hope that one day will be our day. It's just not today".
