The future of Gavin and Stacey has been sealed after one of the show’s actors revealed the short statement left for the cast by writers Ruth Jones and James Corden at the end of the script, as many fans have been left wondering if the sitcom is really coming to an end forever.

Speaking on the Off the Telly podcast, Pete star Adrian Scarborough, 56, told hosts Natalie Cassidy and Joanna Page and fellow co-star Robert Wilfort, who plays Jason West, what was left for them at the end of the script.

When quizzed by Natalie on whether the show could make another comeback in the future, Adrian said: “I like what they put at the end of the script - 'The End forever, and ever. Amen'. Also, I think it’s really, really brave to finish things because often I just think things go on a little bit too long.

“And I think with this, the best thing they could have done was just go, ‘We’ve got an ending’. Endings are good, moving on and moving onto new projects, which hopefully we’ll all be in.”

Adrian’s comments come as anticipation builds for what will be the final episode of the British television staple, which first aired in 2007 and stars the likes of James Corden, Matthew Horne, Ruth Jones, Joanna Page and Rob Brydon.

The end of the show has triggered waves of emotions from fans across the country and even brought James to tears. Appearing on The Graham Norton Show on Friday night, the actor and presenter, 46, said: “It was a very, very special day. We really, kind of, scheduled the show so that the very last line that we’ll ever hear in the episode is the last thing we shot.

“Which anyone will tell you is so rare that you ever do. Normally, your last day, you’re out on a motorway on your own in a car, and people go, ‘Well done,’ and you go, ‘Bye then.’ But we really felt like we wanted everybody to be there at the very, very end, and it was just a lot of tears.”

James also revealed that alongside tears on set, emotions had also been high at a private screening of the final episode earlier that week, reported The Sun.

He recalled: “We had a screening two days ago, which is the first time anybody has seen it, and that was a lot of tears. It’s been a very, very emotional thing to do, really.”

However, whilst the show will end, the story of Gavin & Stacey won’t, as a book will be released in the Autumn of 2025.

In a statement, James Corden and Ruth Jones said: “We’re so excited to be sharing the story behind the story of Gavin and Stacey. The show has played a huge part in our twenty-five-year friendship and we hope this book will give readers a fresh insight into how it all came about.”
