McDonald's changes Happy Meals for kids aged 11 and under

McDonald's has revealed a significant change to its Happy Meals, specifically aimed at children aged 4-11. The familiar red and yellow boxes with their cheerful design have been replaced by "bespoke" Sonic 3 boxes, now available in UK outlets, in celebration of the recent release of the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film.

And that's not the only change as nine new "premium toys" are also included in the boxes, designed to "encourage children aged 4-11 to be ambitious and bring out the best in each other, inspired by their favourite Sonic 3 characters". McDonald's also launched several new menu items earlier this month.

And today, Wednesday, January 15, customers can enjoy the popular Chicken Katsu wrap for a discounted price of £1.99. The offer is only available on Wednesdays.

Other new additions to the menu include the barbecue Ranch Stack and the Milky Way McFlurry, while old favourites like the McCrispy barbecue Smokehouse and Mozzarella Dippers have made a comeback. The Chicken Katsu One features either crispy or grilled chicken in katsu sauce, with onions, cucumber and lettuce, in a toasted tortilla.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "Customers can experience the thrill of speed and strength in a super-sonic adventure at McDonald's alongside Sonic 3 characters. Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and Shadow will take customers on a journey through speed and reveal a range of fun and exciting activities for the whole family. If that's not enough, customers can visit the McDonald's Family Hub for a range of Super-Sonic activity sheets and those dining in restaurants can make the most of Sonic 3 themed board games and flags."
