What is the best Path of Exile 2 Sorceress build? The Sorceress is one of six new classes in Path of Exile 2 and focuses on elemental damage by weakening enemies to inflict elemental magic: fire, ice, and lightning.

We’ve seen a glimpse of what to expect from the Path of Exile 2 Mercenary and Ranger, but what about a spell-based class? The Sorceress is one of 12 classes arriving with the Path of Exile 2 release date, let’s take a look at her abilities, ascendancies, and what a potential build could look like when the RPG game arrives.

Path of Exile 2 Sorceress overview

The Sorceress has been compared in style to the PoE 2 Witch, but instead of summons, she focuses on elemental magic damage. She’s an intelligence-based class that inflicts elemental destruction through the new and improved caster weapons, which instead of PoE’s default melee attack and mods, now have a free-to-cast spell that changes depending on the staff equipped.

Unlike other classes, the Sorceress doesn’t have a signature weapon, but instead uses staves to decrease enemies elemental resistances and buff her own elemental damage. She also has pretty poor defenses and isn’t able to withstand damage like melee style characters such as the Warrior or Druid, but there are some spells that can aid her in combat, such as Arctic Armor.

There are also different ascendancies depending on how you plan to build your class that act like subclasses. For the Sorceress, these are:

  • The Stormweaver: Become a master of the elements who can cast faster, hit harder, and chill and shock enemies en masse. The Stormweaver can even conjure devastating Elemental Storms.
  • The Chronomancer: Wields powerful temporal magic that can reset cooldowns, slow enemies in her presence, and even freeze time.

Path of Exile 2 Sorceress skills

So far, the Sorceress looks pretty powerful, and though squishy, the caster weapon revamp should make swapping between different elements easier depending on the situation. The Sorceress has a range of AoE, single-target, and buff skills that suit her passives, here are the skills that we’ve seen so far:

  • Spark – A bolt of lightning that pings from wall to wall, good for tight passages and multiple enemies.
  • Arc – Fires an arc of lightning at an enemy, great for single-target damage.
  • Ice Nova – Hits enemies around you and slows them with chill.
  • Arctic Armor – An icy armor that builds up as you stand still, if hit, enemies take cold damage.
  • Frost Bomb – Places a bomb on the ground that reduces the enemies cold resistance.
  • Comet – Costs a lot of mana and has a long cast time, but highly effective, dealing a lot of damage and moving your character back when cast.
  • Mana Tempest – Creates a circle of power where the character hovers and mana drains, powering up all spells to do further damage.
  • Frost Wall – Places a wall of ice that shatters.

What is the best Path of Exile 2 Sorceress build?

It’s important that when building the Sorceress, you make use of the improved weapon swap. In PoE, players rarely utilized the ability to change weapons, but it’s a much more seamless experience now, and though you lose a small amount of time, it’s worth switching between elements to either use skills or combos.

How do I use the best Path of Exile 2 Sorceress build?

Though the situation and monsters you’re up against change which staff you may want equipped, so far, the Sorceress’ ice powers look the most versatile, and complement other classes if you were thinking of playing Path of Exile 2 co-op. Like we’ve said, the Sorceress has bad defenses, so Arctic Armor can help withstand and fight off a horde of monsters if you find yourself cornered. Frost Bomb is excellent at reducing enemies’ cold resistance, and Comet can get you out of a sticky situation by moving you back as you cast, while dealing a deadly, icy blow.

It’s also worth noting that as each staff has a free-to-cast spell, this changes when you equip a new staff. You start out with a fireball, but a better staff can provide more powerful spells such as Unleash, which repeats the next spell you cast three times. The Sorceress is also prone to running out of Spirit, so you may need to hold a Scepter in the off-hand slot, or ensure you have the right mods equipped to cast important spells such as Arctic Armor.
