After ten years, Endless Legend 2 marks the return of the superb fantasy 4X game

From the team behind Humankind and Endless Space, one of the greatest fantasy 4X games on Steam is finally back in Endless Legend 2.

Even to this day, a decade since it first arrived, Endless Legend remains a unique twist on the 4X genre. It borrows from Civilization, Age of Wonders, and even dedicated RPGs like Skyrim or Diablo, but between its colorful factions and the way it divides the map into individual territories, Endless Legend forges its own identity. Still one of the most beloved fantasy strategy games on PC (after 14,000 user reviews, its Steam rating is holding strong at ‘very positive,’) Endless Legend is finally coming back. Complete with a new world, fresh factions, and even an upcoming playtest, Endless Legend 2 is real, and it’s on the way.

Endless Legend 2 takes us to Saiadha, an oceanic world racked by natural disasters and cataclysms. As you play the fantasy 4X game, the map will progressively change around you. Like its predecessor, you can choose between multiple factions, all of which have their own unique architecture, units, and play styles. When Endless Legend 2 launches into early access, four factions will be available. The full strategy game will add two more.

Endless Legend always looked great, and challenged the conventional, historical-style of 4X games with a more imaginative, colorful visual style. Endless Legend 2 seems to push that even further. Saiadha could be the best-looking world that Amplitude has built to date – it’s this blend of robust, painstakingly designed strategy mechanics and florid aesthetics that makes Endless Legend so good, and the sequel, from what we’ve seen so far, will deliver on all fronts.

The Endless Legend 2 early-access release date is slated for “early 2025.” However, Amplitude is reopening its Insider’s Program, so selected candidates can try the game and offer feedback. These first Endless Legend 2 playtests will begin on Thursday January 30. Not everyone will get a place, but if you want to sign up, just head here.
