BG3 patch 8 is a fitting finale for one of the best role-playing games ever made. After nearly two years of gargantuan player counts, myriad game of the year awards, and over 650,000 positive Steam user reviews, Larian’s opus is coming to an end. Baldur’s Gate 3 is, without a doubt, a truly phenomenal achievement. Now, patch 8 offers you yet another reason to return to The Sword Coast, or step onto its shores for the very first time. And yes, everything in this update is free.

Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 8 adds 12 new subclasses to the RPG, one for each of its initial character paths. You can transform into a swashbuckling rogue or drunken monk, with a dozen opportunities to find a new playstyle. You’ll have access to new spells, cantrips, and abilities to change the tide of battle, alongside more strategies than you can shake an Owlbear cub at.

If you want to get a sense of each subclass, all 12 (and their relevant class) are listed below:

  • Barbarian – Path of Giants
  • Bard – College of Glamour
  • Cleric – Death Domain
  • Druid – Circle of Stars
  • Fighter – Arcane Archer
  • Monk – Drunken Master
  • Paladin – Oath of the Crown
  • Ranger – Swarmkeeper
  • Rogue – Swashbuckler
  • Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
  • Warlock – Hexblade
  • Wizard – Bladesinging

You’re not just getting access to game-changing subclasses, though. The new patch 8 also comes with crossplay, which means you can party up with anyone whether they’re on PC, Mac, Xbox, or Playstation. You even have cross-platform progression, which means you can jump between whatever hardware you want and pick up your save exactly how you left it.

If you’re someone who takes loads of screenshots, patch 8 also has a new photo mode. You can use the feature during cutscenes, combat, dialogue, or just while out adventuring. With complete control of the camera, you can pose characters, add frames or stickers, and even mess around with lens settings to snap that perfect shot.

As for what’s next, Larian makes it perfectly clear that this update is the last major one for BG3. “Outside of minor bug fixing, patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content. That means we won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions.

“We’ve told our stories the way we needed to tell them, and tried our best to make them impactful and engaging, and we’re continuing to get better at handling our own chaos so that we can continue to create more chaos in the future.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 8 is live now, and you can grab the game at 20% off. You can expect to pay $47.99 / £39.99 until Monday April 21. Just go right here.

While patch 8 might break a fair few of them, the best Baldur’s Gate 3 mods are sure to improve Larian’s magnum opus. There are also plenty of great Baldur’s Gate 3 builds to help your party get through those especially tough encounters.
