An Oblivion remake could reportedly arrive as early as next month
The heavily rumored The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion remake could reportedly be revealed very soon and could drop as soon as next month.
by Jamie Hore · PCGamesNWhen you look at the 2025 videogame rumor mill, there’s one project that’s cropped up a lot so far – a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The beloved entry in the fantasy RPG series definitely feels like a prime contender for a modernized glow up, but Bethesda is yet to officially announce that it even exists. However, there’s been so many separate pieces of evidence pointing towards an Oblivion remake that it seems almost certain, and some fresh reports claim that it may arrive as early as next month.
Some expert The Elder Scrolls modders are busy rebuilding Oblivion in Skyrim, and even though it’s been several years in the making, it may soon be usurped by an official, Bethesda-sanctioned Oblivion remake if the rumors are to be believed. At least you’ve got options, I suppose? Both projects would also provide some entertainment while we wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 release date to arrive. Earlier this year, reports claimed that this remake of TES 4 would be in players’ hands within a few months. Today, even more reports have emerged that narrow down this time frame.
Initially, notable insider ‘NateTheHate’ said that he expects official news to drop about the Oblivion remake “either this month or next month” and that the game should launch before June. Following NateTheHate’s claims, VGC’s sources have not only corroborated his information, but also predict that “it could arrive as soon as next month.”
With a release potentially coming in April, and NateTheHate claiming that news should arrive very soon, a certain date has caught my eye that may be the prime time for an official announcement from Bethesda. Thursday, March 20 will mark exactly 19 years since Oblivion’s initial launch – while it’s not a landmark birthday, this important date could be a poignant one for a reveal. That’s speculation on my part, but given the amount of reports and info out there, I can say with a fair amount of confidence that you’ll hear about an Oblivion remake (and be playing it) within the next couple of months. Nice.
With Bethesda’s own devs busy supporting Fallout 76, making another expansion for Starfield, and of course working on TES 6, the Oblivion remake is apparently being outsourced, and the evidence is pointing towards Virtuos as the studio responsible for it. Virtuous has established itself as a co-development and support studio for notable titles like Horizon Forbidden West, Halo Infinite, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare, so it’s no stranger to working on high-profile games and popular, beloved series.
Until that seemingly inevitable Oblivion remake reveal arrives, get back into the Elder Scrolls zone by checking out some of the best Skyrim mods, or simply go and play some of the best RPGs of all time.
