Star Wars Outlaws deserves a second chance, and now you can try it free

Star Wars Outlaw, the latest from Assassin's Creed Shadows and Skull and Bones creator Ubisoft, is now available to try out for free.

Ubisoft has a reputation for supporting a number of its games long after their initial launch. This approach has helped keep Rainbow Six Siege and For Honor thriving for many years, and it seems the publisher plans to take a similar tack to more of its recent games. Skull and Bones has a number of massive updates in store, shown off over a recent free trial period, and Star Wars Outlaws has received plenty of major design tweaks and overhauls as well. Now, ahead of the latter game’s next DLC, players can try Outlaws for themselves to see just how far it’s come.

Star Wars Outlaws launched last year to a fairly lukewarm reception, the open-world game described in our review as “a surface-level experience” with “an uninteresting open world and tedious stealth sections.” Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft have worked hard to address these complaints, though, altering aspects of the game like combat, character control, and enemy behavior.

Ubisoft seems eager to show off how much these efforts have changed the game. The publisher is now offering a free demo that gives players a chance to see Outlaws’ current state and determine for themselves whether its take on Star Wars is worth diving into so many months after launch. Now seems as good a time as any, given that its second DLC, A Pirate’s Fortune, is due out in less than a month, on May 15.

You can download Star Wars Outlaws’ free demo over on its Steam page right here.
