Silent Hill f is all about finding “the beauty within terror”
While the Silent Hill Transmission sadly didn't give a Silent Hill f release date, Konami has shared lots of details on the new horror game.
by Jamie Hore · PCGamesNAfter more than two years in the shadows, Konami has finally shown off more of the next Silent Hill game. Silent Hill f will be the first mainline game in the iconic horror series since 2012’s Downpour, and while it carries on the tradition of providing intense psychological horror in corrupted, fog-filled locations, it breaks free from the titular town of previous games. Instead, Silent Hill f will follow an all-new teenage protagonist in a town set in 1960s rural Japan.
The initial reveal of Silent Hill f back in 2022 gave us an early conceptual look at the new horror game, but since then we’ve heard absolutely nothing else about it. Today’s Silent Hill Transmission changes all that with a brand new trailer and loads of details about what to expect. Silent Hill f will put you in the shoes of Shimizu Hinako, a teenage girl who lives in the quiet, peaceful town of Ebisugaoka. However, strange occurrences and a Silent Hill-appropriate amount of fog plague the town, and Hinako must wrestle with a decision that revolves around the core theme of Silent Hill f: finding “beauty within terror.”
While the brand new trailer for Silent Hill f is almost entirely cinematic, we do see at the very end Hinako reaching for a steel pipe as some new grotesque monsters close in on her – a classic melee weapon from the series and potentially the first weapon you’ll get to wield.
In a deep dive into Silent Hill f, the game’s producer Motoi Okamoto explains that even though the series is heading to Japan and away from its famous American town, the essence of Silent Hill has not been lost. Even though it is a “completely original story,” veterans will still be able to find easter eggs calling back to previous games. There will be complex puzzles to solve. The monsters are all-new, but will still “infiltrate the players’ psyche” just like the best enemies we’ve faced in the past.
Disappointingly, there was no release date or window revealed for Silent Hill f, but the game is now available to wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store for PC players.
There were also no other surprise announcements during the Transmission, so we’re still without details on Silent Hill Townfall which was announced alongside f in 2022. While there’s been speculation and predictions that more old games would get remakes following Bloober Team’s incredible recreation of Silent Hill 2, there was no news in that department either.
While Konami may not have given all the information fans were hoping to hear, it was still great to get a proper look at Silent Hill f. Until we get to see more, here are some other epic single-player games and survival games to take for a spin.
