Yes, you read that headline right, the Final Fantasy 14 mobile port is real and director Naoki Yoshida himself confirmed it. The critically acclaimed MMO with one heck of a free trial is officially coming to mobile devices, and it looks so much better than I ever imagined it would. This version of FF14 won’t be quite the same as Square Enix’s PC and console counterparts, but there’s still going to be an awful lot to do. You can even sign up right now.

Yoshida calls this mobile version “a sister to Final Fantasy 14,” and adds that “Non-combat features, such as Disciples of the Land and Hand, will also be faithfully implemented” into the mobile port of the MMO. Square Enix is working with Tencent subsidiary Lightspeed Studios on FF14 mobile, which will also aim to recreate the original gameplay and story experience.

That means the Scions (all in their original garb) are back, and the trailer even shows everyone’s favorite duo of Nanamo and Raubahn at the forefront. You can experience A Realm Reborn’s story all over again, but it’s unclear right now at what point the mobile version’s narrative will end. You’ll only have nine jobs at launch, and if the official screenshots are anything to go by it looks like they’ll include Dragoon, Bard, Marauder, Black Mage, Monk, Scholar/Summoner, and a few others.

The mobile recreation of FF14 is also going to launch with some more casual content, with 11 crafting and gathering classes arriving at launch – including fishing. You’ll also be able to take a trip to the Gold Saucer and play some Triple Triad, or even try to win a few Chocobo races too.

Square Enix hasn’t revealed a release date for the Final Fantasy 14 mobile port just yet, but there will be multiple Chinese playtests and a global launch soon after. In the meantime, you can pre-register for the game and keep up to date with the latest news right here.
