'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' tops North American box office with $355M
by Karen Butler · UPIAug. 2 (UPI) -- Spider-Man: Brand New Day -- starring Tom Holland and his wife Zendaya -- is the No. 1 movie in North America, earning $355 million in receipts this weekend, BoxOfficeMojo.com announced Sunday.
Variety said this is the second biggest opening weekend for a film since 2019's Avengers: Endgame raked in $357 million.
Coming in at No. 2 is The Odyssey -- also starring Holland and Zendaya -- with $51 million, followed by Toy Story 5 at No. 3 with $6.3 million, Minions & Monsters at No. 4 with $5.8 million and Moana at No. 5 with $5.3 million.
Rounding out the top tier are Hadestown at No. 6 with $2 million, The Invite at No. 7 with $1.2 million, I Want Your Sex at No. 8 with $600,000, Evil Dead Burn at No. 9 with $527,000 and Young Washington at No. 10 with $478,000.
