Eddie Murphy's 'Shrek' sidekick Donkey is getting his own movie
by Karen Butler · UPIJune 25 (UPI) -- The Shrek film franchise is getting another animated spin-off.
"Start heating up those waffle irons. DONKEY is setting out on his very own adventure June 30, 2028," the official Shrek X page said Thursday.
Variety said Eddie Murphy will reprise his role in the Donkey origins story, which is to be directed by Charlie Bean whose credits include The Lego Ninjago Movie and the live-action Lady and The Tramp.
Shrek 5, featuring the voice talents of Mike Myers as Shrek and Murphy as Donkey, is set for theatrical release in the summer of 2027.
The last Shrek movie, Shrek Forever After, was opened in 2010.
