by Katy Hallam, https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/authors/katy-hallam/, Katie Francis · Birmingham LiveMathew Horne has revealed his next big career step. Fresh from wrapping up the much-loved Gavin and Stacey Christmas finale, the comedian is gearing up for another significant festive gig.
This New Year's Eve, Mat will be leaving behind the familiar settings of Billericay and Barry to take on London, where he's slated to perform at a major event. Not only an accomplished actor, Mat also moonlights as a DJ and is set to headline a massive indie bash at Camden's Electric Ballroom on December 31.
In collaboration with Propaganda, Mat, 46, will be the star attraction at their New Year's Eve celebration, with the event description playfully nodding to his Gavin and Stacey notoriety: "What's occurring London? " it teases. "For one night only, Propaganda is back at Electric Ballroom to throw one huge NYE party! With none other than Gavin and Stacey's Mathew Horne joining as a special guest DJ!"

Tickets for the event are a steal at just £15, and the hype promises: "The Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special may be the only thing on our wish list this year, but we promise this will be THE night to remember! Mathew Horne (Gavin) and DJ Dan (Oasis Aftershow DJ) will be bringing the bangers and vibes to ring in the new year and make you feel like you're in the best party in Barry Island! Crackin."
The Gavin And Stacey finale triumphed as the highest-rated Christmas Day show since 2008, according to BBC's viewership figures. The touching send-off to the beloved series, which delivered a long-awaited happy ending for characters Smithy and Nessa, captivated an average audience of 12.3 million, per overnight data, reports the Mirror.
Despite the seemingly perfect farewell to the series, whispers from behind the scenes suggest that the staggering success of the festive special has lured the BBC into considering extending the journey. A source spilled the beans to The Sun, revealing: "James [Corden] and Ruth [Jones] are adamant this is the last of Gavin and Stacey. But, when a programme achieves such results, execs will always hope for more."
"At the end of the day, ratings talk and it would be madness to close the door on such a hit forever when fans loved it so much. Bosses have had casual discussions about whether options like a Pete and Dawn spin-off could work. They were always more separate to the main group and a new universe could be developed which didn't involve any of the core cast, so James and Ruth's involvement could be a little different."
While there might be uncertainty swirling around the future of the series on TV screens, creators Ruth Jones and James Corden have already pooled their talents into a fresh endeavour: a book divulging the backstage tales of the beloved show. Commenting on the announcement of the book deal, they shared with fans their excitement: "We're so excited to be sharing the story behind the story of Gavin and Stacey. The show has played a huge part in our twenty-five-year friendship and we hope this book will give readers a fresh insight into how it all came about."
