Eamonn Holmes' co-star Isabel Webster's 'real' reason for GB News exit as 'tensions' shared

by · Birmingham Live

A TV insider has claimed that tensions behind the scenes of GB News are the reason for Isabel Webster's sudden departure. She had been working on the chanel for just over three years.

But fans were shocked when it was announced she would not return alongside co-star Eamonn Holmes on Wednesday. According to a TV insider, Isabel's exit from GB News was triggered by a dispute over her working hours.

Channel bosses allegedly wanted her to increase her on-screen days from three to five a week, but the source claimed she Isabel was unhappy with the proposal, feeling that Eamonn, the show's main star, was not being asked to make the same commitment.

The insider revealed: "Isabel wasn't happy that bosses were expecting her to work the full week while Eamonn stays hosting Monday to Wednesday."

"It had become a sticking point in negotiations and was causing tension behind the scenes."

Eamonn, 60, was reportedly caught off guard by Isabel's departure, which was announced on Wednesday after talks broke down. The 42 year old presenter has been replaced by 31 year old Ellie Costello, who will work alongside Eamonn from Monday to Wednesday and with Stephen Dixon on Thursdays and Fridays.

Eamonn took to Twitter to bid farewell to his former co-host, saying "Bye my girl x". A source previously told The Sun: "Eamonn wasn't consulted about the decision, in fact he was totally blindsided - and his new co-host was chosen for him before he even knew Isabel was leaving."

"He and Isabel had their moments as a TV partnership. Eamonn's a legend in the industry and a king of breakfast telly. It's always the bigger name who works fewer days on-screen.

"As Isabel has grown more headstrong in her role as Eamonn's co-host, there have been a few tiffs and clashes over their differing opinions, but all in all they worked well together and are good friends. Although, silence speaks volumes and it was quite obvious to some people there wasn't a gushing post from Eamonn or Isabel about the end of their TV partnership."
