There's a fresh blow for ITV soap Coronation Street as ANOTHER hugely popular star QUITS the cobbles after 11 years amid an ongoing mass exodus. Coronation Street star Shelley King has become the latest star to leave the soap.

The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and has now finished filming her final scenes. A TV insider said: "This will be another blow for fans of the show, as Yasmeen is a much-loved character who's part of the fabric of Corrie.

"She's had some huge storylines since she joined the soap in 2014, and she'll be sorely missed by cast and crew." Shelley's departure will be broadcast in March 2025 - though the circumstances of her leaving remains up in the air.

A source went on, adding: "It’s understood she is leaving so she can explore other projects." A show insider said: "Shelley spoke to producers early last year and advised that after 10 years on the show and being involved in many major storylines during the past decade she had decided the time has come for her to explore other opportunities.

"Shelley is an accomplished stage and television actress and we fully understand her desire to take her career in another direction after 10 years playing the same role.

"She filmed her final scenes in December." Last week it was revealed Colson Smith had been axed after playing Craig Tinker for 14 years. Co-stars Luca Toolan (Mason Radcliffe) and Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster) have also been written out by bosses recently.

Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley) revealed she'd quit the programme this week, following in the footsteps of Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw). It comes after the shock exit of Helen Worth as Gail Platt after 50 years. The Sun says “a perfect storm of soaring telly production costs and a fall in advertising has put the future of the UK's most-watched soap at risk” is behind the decision and has “infuriated” cast.
