Wynne Evans has issued a sad update in the wake of the "grope" scandal which saw him embroiled in a storm with pro dancer Katya Jones. The GoCompare star is preparing to return to the ballroom dancefloor on Saturday night, alongside Katya.

The BBC Strictly Come Dancing star is set to dance the Rumba to Dame Shirley Bassey's classic tune 'This Is My Life' this weekend for the newly introduced 'Icons' week. But the 52-year-old has opened up on his concerns ahead of the routine.

In an Instagram Q&A with fans, the Welshman said: "I don't know. I don't look at what's coming up. I just have to focus on getting through this week. I'm now the oldest and the fattest, so the fact I've made it this far is incredible."

The 52-year-old singer has faced a huge backlash following a 'grope' incident with Katya Jones, which left the couple having to publicly apologise for what they called an 'inside joke.' Wynne admitted to feeling 'heartbroken' after their joke was misconstrued.

He said: "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day. It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke."

He continued: "She wasn't offended in the least. She doesn't feel uncomfortable." He said: "We've got a brilliant friendship, an absolutely tight friendship, and I'm sorry if anybody was offended by it, but it was a joke. And that's all there is. There is no real story, really."

"I feel weird apologising becaise I feel like I've not really done anything," the face of the GoCompare adverts went on to say. BBC Strictly Come Dancing continues to air each Saturday.
