Taylor Swift makes rare comment about her split from Joe Alwyn: 'Men will let you down'
· GOSS.ieTaylor Swift has made a rare comment about her split from Joe Alwyn.
In episode four of her The End of an Era docuseries on Disney+, the singer confessed she faced a lot of heartbreak during the start of her worldwide tour, which ran from March 2023 to December 2024.
“There were points in this tour when the tour was really the only thing that was really keeping me going in my life,” she admitted.
“But there were never points in the tour where I thought, ‘Oh, you know what? I want to quit the tour ‘cause the tour’s hard.’ No, my personal life was hard,” Taylor continued.
“I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour, and that’s a lot of breakups actually.”
Taylor was referring to her split from British actor Joe Alwyn, 34, whom she dated for over six years before the pair called it quits in early 2023.
After their split, the singer struck up a brief romance with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy.
“The show was what gave me purpose and was what I could use to get me out of bed. So, the tour has never been the hard thing in my life,” she explained.
“The tour has been the thing that has allowed me to find purpose outside of the s*** that was going wrong in my life.”
“Men will let you down, the Eras Tour never will,” she added with a smile.
Taylor also spoke about writing her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, and how she found it “a form of therapy”.
“Tortured Poets album is like this purge of… just, like, everything, everything bad that I felt for two years. It was a really rough time in my life, so the songs reflect that,” she said.
“Feeling like I’m not a person, I’m just this like, big conglomerate that no one sees as a real human being and especially not men that I date. And in the whole process just being like…nothing, nothing works. There’s no one for me in the world.”
Thankfully, the tour lead to her meeting her now-fiancé Travis Kelce.
It was revealed in the docuseries that Taylor’s mom Andrea Swift came across headlines from Travis’ New Heights podcast, in which he shared his failed attempt to give Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it.
Andrea said she called up her cousin, who happens to be the “resident expert on the Kansas City Chiefs”, who confirmed that Travis was “the nicest guy” and he “really loves his mom.”
Andrea then made it her mission to set the pair up.
Taylor, who noted that she had been “very non-athlete” when it came to dating up until that point, recalled, “So, you call me up with this tone of like, ‘Hey so I know you’re not going to react well to this. But there’s a guy…,” to which her mom chimed in, “He’s really cute.”
Taylor added: “You said something to the effect of like, ‘You gotta start doing something different.'”
At the end of the episode, Taylor joked, “If you ever would have ever told me that the most meaningful relationship I would ever have would start with a man saying he was ‘butt hurt’ that I didn’t want to meet him, unbelievable.”
Taylor and Travis started dating at the end of the summer in 2023, and went public with their relationship that September.
The couple then went on to announce their engagement in August of this year.
