Maura Higgins has clapped back at fans who said she didn’t call Rob Rausch out for his Traitor’s betrayal.

The latest season of The Traitors US concluded in the United States last week, where former Love Island star Maura Higgins, competing as a Faithful, made it to the final.

Maura stood in the final alongside her fellow Faithfuls Mark Ballas, Johnny Weir, and Tara Lipinski, and Traitors Eric Nam and Rob Rausch.

In the end, Rob and Maura were the last two remaining players in the game.

Due to the close friendship they had formed throughout the show, Maura believed that Rob was a Faithful and that they would be splitting the $220,800 prize money between them.

However, Maura’s heart was ultimately shattered when Rob declared: “I am and I always have been a Traitor. I am so sorry, I am a Traitor. I’m serious.”

Following this, fans shared that they believed Maura should have called him out more, reflecting on her iconic moment on Love Island where she fought with Tom for comments he had made.

One fan wrote: “I miss the Maura that absolutely devoured tom in the villaaaa “eh uh uh uh. 😭😭😭😭”

However, she clapped back explaining: “If I call out a man for disrespecting me in real life, that’s standard! If I clap a man for ourplaying me in a stratefy game, that’s class. These situations arent comparable.”

In an interview with US Weekly, Maura further addressed the comments, confessing: “I genuinely don’t take it that seriously, and I’m not a serious person. I’ve heard a few comments like: ‘Maura is the dumbest person in there,’ but it’s so easy for them to say they know who the Traitors are.”

“It’s not that way when you’re in there! It’s actually really, really difficult. But yeah, I wasn’t upset [about the ending] at all. I was actually very proud of myself for getting as far as I did.”

Regarding her betrayal, Maura said that she was used to being betrayed, as she had been cheated on many times.

“I don’t trust men anyway. If I wasn’t used to that kind of guy, I reckon I would’ve been crying, storming out, never speaking to him again.”

“But I’ve already got severe trust issues. I’ve been cheated on by the majority of my exes – that’s the reason I’ve been celibate for a whole year,” she told Elite Daily.
