The Devils Trailer: Ken Russell’s Restored Director’s Cut Haunts Theaters This October

by · The Film Stage

WB’s fresh Clockwork label will start on quite the promising note. Before debuting new films from Sean Baker and Mary Bronstein next year, their first official release will be of the NC-17 rated variety. The restored director’s cut of Ken Russell’s The Devils will receive a release in North American theaters on October 16 for an exclusive one-week engagement with select 35mm screenings, followed by a UK release on October 30. Ahead of the release of a holy grail of cinema, the new trailer has landed.

“The restoration of the material is like cleaning the Sistine Chapel with saliva,” said Guillermo del Toro. “It is insane, the epic size of the film. I mean, I’ve seen it on the big screen in Telluride at a theater – but I’ve never seen the movie until I saw this restoration.”

Here’s the synopsis: “An enduring, singular masterpiece of cinema starring Academy Award®-winner Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed, KEN RUSSELL’S THE DEVILS is a prescient epic of obsession and corruption – and a defining work of art from seminal filmmaker Ken Russell.”
