Broadway musical about life and career of country music icon Dolly Parton to open next year

by · The Washington Times

Country music icon Dolly Parton has announced that a biographical stage show about her life is heading to Broadway, news outlets report.

Preview performances of “Dolly: A True Original Musical” will start on Dec. 7, with opening night set for Ms. Parton’s 81st birthday on Jan. 19.

The show will run exclusively at New York’s St. James Theatre.

The musical is directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, with a book co-written by Ms. Parton and Maria S. Schlatter.

It features Ms. Parton’s classic hits, including “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “9 to 5,” with new songs she wrote for the show.

It had its world premiere in Nashville last year before being reworked for the Broadway transfer.

Presale tickets are available, with general tickets to be provided later.
