by Jessica Storoschuk · Royal CentralKing Charles will take part in an ancient ceremony as he arrives in Scotland for a week of special events.
The Monarch usually spends a week in Scotland at the start of summer with Charles III arriving for this year on July 1.
His Majesty will be joined by Queen Camilla, the Princess Royal and the Duke of Edinburgh for a series of engagements celebrating Scottish culture, community, and achievements.
This time is know as both Royal Week and Holyrood Week.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will be staying at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, the Monarch’s official residence in Scotland.
The trip will begin with the Ceremony of the Keys. The ceremony dates back to the nineteenth century and sees the Lord Provost of the city offer the Keys of the City to the Monarch.
The King and Queen will also host the last Garden Party of the summer at Holyroodhouse. Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Tim Laurence, will join them to help greet the thousands of guests invited.
The Duke of Edinburgh will host another major event. The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Ceremony will celebrate the young people who have successfully completed the highest level of the Duke of Edinburgh award.
There will also be several more smaller receptions and events throughout the week, as King Charles and Queen Camilla typically visit several different communities.
