BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden issues devastating statement and says 'I hate cancer'

Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden shared a heartbreaking post on Instagram, saying: "I truly hate cancer." The 34 year old professional dancer, who was diagnosed with grade three breast cancer in May 2023, had previously announced in February 2024 that there was "no evidence of disease" left in her body after undergoing a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and fertility treatment.

However, Amy's friend and treatment partner, Hannah, whom she met in hospital, has sadly passed away from breast cancer. Amy paid tribute to Hannah, saying: "Life is cruel and I truly hate cancer! A beautiful soul, Hannah, I met during treatment. Our appointments always aligned and we'd have a good natter and put the world to rights."

Amy recalled how Hannah had messaged her after she spoke about her on Loose Women, and how they had discussed their plans for life after cancer. Hannah had expressed her desire to join Amy on a charity trek the following year to give back.

Amy continued: "I was 6 months ahead of her so she would always be asking me questions and she was just the most genuine, dedicated mother and soul. I've just received a message from Hannah's friend to tell me Hannah passed last Tuesday.", reports the Express.

The news has left Amy reeling, but she finds comfort in knowing that Hannah's memory will live on through her two beautiful twin girls, who have already lost their father to the same disease. Amy concluded: "This has knocked me but also knowing she's left two beautiful twin girls behind who already have lost their dad to this awful disease. You will live on through them Hannah! " Amy mentioned that a GoFundMe page has been created to honour Hannah, noting she's "hoping to arrange something special for her beautiful twin girls".

She also expressed: "The news has hit me quite hard. I'm gutted and angry. RIP beautiful Hannah. What a woman! " This statement comes amid Amy's return to hospital for ongoing preventative treatments. Sharing an image from the hospital, she captioned it: "And we are back for the first one of 2025 [injection emoji at the Sheldon Oncology Unit."

Adding to this, she said, "Then joining the gang in Sheffield. Don't enjoy these... but if they keep that cancer away it's worth it! Plus always lovely to catch up with the unit."
