Spotify Adds Setting to Keep Your Kids’ Music Out of Your Yearly Wrapped

by · Droid Life

Each year, the anticipation of your Spotify Wrapped builds because you think that it will confirm your musical tastes are superior to those around you. You can’t wait to run through each slide, screenshot many, and then hit the socials to share the fruits of your elite ear. And then it arrives and you remember that you have kids.

Yes, this is a real situation with Spotify, assuming you care at all about the yearly Wrapped recaps of your previous 12 months or so. What was supposed to be a fun run-through of your past year of music, has instead turned into a flood of kiddie and family-friendly music that your kids have dominated thanks to their repeats of the latest Disney movie soundtrack.

Spotify is finally bringing the parents of the world a fix. Spotify now has a toggle to turn off that is called “Include kids and family music in taste profile.” Yes, you want to turn it off to not have kids and family music included in your taste profile, which eventually influences your yearly Wrapped.

Here are the instructions they give for turning this setting off:

  1. Navigate to your Settings and privacy by tapping your profile picture in the top-left corner.
  2. Select Content and display.
  3. Switch off the toggle next to Include kids and family music in taste profile. (It may take up to 48 hours for these changes to be reflected in your personalized recommendations.)

Spotify suggests you can “play music for your kids without their favorites affecting your experience.” It could take up to 48 hours before they show changes within your personalized recommendations, so be a little patient.
