Storm warning for tonight and Friday in Latvia

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) has issued yellow warnings (potential danger) for storms and high water levels acoss the north of the country and orange warnings (danger) across the south.

Tonight and into Friday morning, it will rain in many places, with heavy thunderstorms possible. The first half of the day will pass without heavy precipitation, but storm clouds will form in many places in the afternoon.

In some places, with a higher probability in Vidzeme region, a destructive storm may develop, bringing particularly intense rainfall, large hail and a storm surge, though storms will likely be localised.

The prevailing wind will be light to moderate north, northeast, and also east during the day, but it will become gusty later.

Minimum air temperatures overnight will be in the range +13 Celsius to +18 C with a maximum during Friday of +24 C to +29 degrees, though in Kurzeme it will be a few degrees colder.

The weather will improve over the weekend, with mostly sunny and warm weather, with only occasional brief rain and possible thunderstorms.
