Let’s measure things – Dr Vanessa Apea urges people to take health concerns seriously
by Gabs · MyNewsGh.comDr Vanessa Apea, Founder, CEO and Medical Director of The Accra London Health Centre, has urged people to seek medical attention when they notice that something is not right with their bodies instead of waiting for serious symptoms to develop.
She said people often live in a culture of reacting to health problems after they become obvious, when early action could make a difference.
“I think that we live in a culture of reaction,” Dr Apea said on GTV Breakfast Show.
“But we know, or we, now you know. Now is the time to do something about it,” she added.
Dr Apea stressed the importance of regular health checks and encouraged people to check themselves at least once a year.
“Knowing yourself is checking yourself, you know, minimum once a year,” she said.
She also urged people to pay attention to subtle changes in their bodies.
“It doesn’t have to be something spectacular. In fact, I don’t want spectacular. I want something a little… You just know something is off,” she said.
According to Dr Apea, recognising such changes should lead to a conversation with a health professional.
“Come and talk to me about it. Come and talk to someone about it. Let’s measure things. Let’s understand you. And then let’s put a plan in place to support you,” she said.
She said the plan does not have to be complicated, but it should be intentional.
Dr Apea also linked early action to the broader principle that prevention is better than cure.
“Now is the time to do something about it,” she reiterated.
