Greggs issues urgent recall of iconic product and warns 'do not eat'
by Sophie Harris · BristolLiveGreggshas issued an urgent product recall. The high-street bakery chain is pulling its Greggs 2 Pack Steak Bake - which is exclusively sold at Iceland - off the shelves.
The issue lies in the fact that the packs contain sausage, bean and cheese melts, meaning the presence of sulphites is not declared. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned that this oversight poses a potential health risk to individuals with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.
The recall specifically targets the two-pack product sold only at Iceland, reassuring that other Greggs products or different date codes are not implicated, reports the Express.
As part of their customer service response, Greggs announced: "We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you have any queries please contact Customer Care on +44 08081 473 447 or getintouch@greggs.co.uk."
The FSA advises: "If you have bought the above product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites do not consume it. Instead return it to your nearest Iceland store from where it was bought for a full refund."
In related news concerning food recalls, Lidl Northern Ireland has recently taken a batch of Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedges off its shelves. This was due to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in the product, posing a risk to consumer safety.
People infected by this bacterium can experience symptoms akin to flu, including raised temperature, chills, and sickness.
