SRINAGAR, Apr 8: The Meteorological Department has warned of possible flash floods and landslides in parts of Kashmir due to heavy showers, even as fresh snowfall was recorded in higher reaches and rains lashed the plains on Wednesday.

The popular tourist destination Gulmarg and other higher areas, including Kupwara and Bandipora, received fresh snowfall, while Srinagar and other plains witnessed rainfall.

According to the MeT department, erratic weather conditions are likely to persist till April 10.

Intermittent light to moderate rain in plains and snowfall in higher reaches is expected to continue till Wednesday evening, accompanied by thunder, hail and gusty winds at isolated places.

The department said some areas may receive moderate to heavy rainfall, while higher reaches could witness moderate snowfall till Thursday morning. Scattered light rain or thundershowers are also likely on Thursday and Friday.

Weather conditions are expected to remain generally dry from April 11 to 16, although brief spells of light rain may occur in some areas during afternoon or evening hours.

The MeT office cautioned that intense showers over short periods could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable locations and cause waterlogging in low-lying areas. (Agencies)
