Greggs issues urgent Steak Bake warning and says 'do not eat'

by · Birmingham Live

Greggs customers have been issued an urgent health warning over its Steak Bakes. The bakery chain is recalling two packs of its Steak Bakes due to 'undeclared sulphites'.

They are not on the label due to a 'packaging error'. It means that the products could be a possible health risk for anyone with a 'sensitivity' to sulphur dioxide or sulphites.

Customers are now being urged to avoid eating the product if they think it could make them ill. Pack sizes of 280g, with a best before of May 19, 2025, are affected.

They are exclusive to Iceland. No other products, date codes or batches are impacted.

The Food Standards Agency said: "Greggs is recalling Greggs 2 pack Steak Bake because it contains sulphites which are not declared on the label. Due to a packaging error some packs contain Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melts which contain sulphites.

"These were incorrectly packed in Steak Bake packaging. This means sulphites is not declared on the label; therefore the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites."

It added: "If you have bought the above product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites do not consume it. Instead return it to your nearest Iceland store from where it was bought for a full refund.
