Today Show Announces Savannah Guthrie's Official Return Date Amid Mom Nancy's Disappearance -- & Her Emotional Reason For Coming Back!

by · Perez Hilton

Savannah Guthrie is preparing to step back into the spotlight.

After a deeply emotional two-month absence from the Today show, it was revealed live on air Friday morning that the beloved anchor will officially return to her seat at the desk on Monday, April 6. The announcement came from her colleagues, including Hoda Kotb, who have collectively been holding down the fort while quietly and consistently rallying around her behind the scenes during what is clearly one of the most painful chapters of Savannah’s life amid her mom Nancy Guthrie‘s shocking disappearance.

Craig Melvin reacted to Hoda’s reveal of Savannah’s comeback news with heartfelt sincerity, saying:

“We cannot wait to welcome her back with open arms here in Studio 1A.”

Amen.

Just moments before that announcement, viewers watched the latest portion of Savannah’s sit-down interview with Hoda, and it was nothing short of raw, honest, and incredibly human. Savannah didn’t pretend to have all the answers over Nancy’s heartbreaking case, or the fallout from it. In fact, Guthrie made it clear she has very few:

“It’s hard to imagine doing it [Today] because it’s such a place of joy and lightness and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not. But I can’t not come back because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real. And my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. And being there is joyful. And when it’s not, I’ll say so. I have been so grateful to have this family. I consider this my family, my greater family, and when times are hard, you want to be with your family. And I want to be with my family.”

Of course, Savannah has been off the air since early February, when Nancy mysteriously disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona. The case remains unsolved, with disturbing details emerging about a masked intruder and surveillance footage that has only deepened the concern.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Savannah has remained steadfast in her hope, even as she openly questions her own ability to return to normalcy. She also said this during her comeback interview:

“I don’t know if I can do it. I don’t know if I’ll belong anymore, but I would like to try. I would like to try. I’m not gonna be the same, but maybe it’s like that old poem, more beautiful in the broken places.”

Ugh. That last line lingers.

As we’ve previously reported, Savannah briefly returned to Studio 1A earlier this month to thank her colleagues, expressing gratitude for their support while making it clear her focus remains on bringing her mother home.

For now, as we await Savannah’s return, all we can really do is keep sending love and light.
