Four confirmed dead after vehicle plunges into dam in Kano

Four people have been confirmed dead, while others were rescued, after a commercial Golf Wagon lost control and plunged into Tomas Dam in the Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a burst tyre caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The vehicle was carrying 10 passengers and travelling from Kano to Roni in neighboring Jigawa State before the tragic incident.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed the incident.

“The accident occurred on Tuesday, at about 7:10 p.m., when the Kano State Fire Service received an emergency call reporting the crash.

“The Fire Service Branch in Danbatta Local Government Area received an emergency call at about 7:10 p.m. from one Suleman reporting the crash of a Golf Wagon with an unknown registration number,” the spokesperson revealed.

The PRO added that the vehicle reportedly lost control and fell into the dam, trapping all the occupants inside.

Firefighters from the Danbatta station were immediately deployed to the scene and successfully rescued all the victims from the submerged vehicle.

However, four of the victims were later confirmed dead after being rushed to Danbatta General Hospital for medical attention.

The deceased include Shamsiya Miko, about 35 years old, Fatima Danlami, about 40 years old, and two others who were yet to be identified at the time of filing this report.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, expressed sadness over the incident and urged motorists to exercise caution while driving.
