Joint security operatives rescue abducted Ekiti LG vice chairman

Joint security operatives have successfully rescued the kidnapped Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mrs. Grace Ogunleye.

The council official was rescued unhurt

Recall that she was ambushed and taken by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

The incident occurred along the lonely Ipere–Iludun Ekiti Road while she was returning from an official engagement and heading toward Ido-Ekiti.

Her vehicle was found abandoned by the roadside with her mobile phone switched off.

Following her disappearance, a combined forces team comprising the Nigeria Police Force, the military, local security outfits, and civilian vigilantes launched a high-pressure search operation.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, confirmed her safe release on Thursday.

Abutu noted that relentless pressure from the joint security network forced the hoodlums to abandon her.

“The breakthrough came as a result of a joint operation by the police, the military and other security agencies as well as local security personnel, who embarked on a rescue mission and mounted pressure on the hoodlums.

“The Commissioner of Police, Micheal Falade, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident in order to unravel the cause and those behind it,” Abutu stated.
