Texas technology entrepreneur, his wife and their two young children among victims of devastating business jet crash in South Florida

A Texas business couple and their two young children are among nine people killed when a Learjet 60 crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County, Florida.

The aircraft went down on Sunday, November 1, while travelling from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. It crashed near Greenacres, southwest of West Palm Beach, before erupting into a massive fireball.

The identities of the victims have since been confirmed by their families, including technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp and their children, Emma, four, and Charlie, two.

The family was travelling with their nanny, Anita Maria Cetina, and two friends, Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr.

The deaths have devastated relatives and friends, with the families describing Adam and Helen as devoted parents whose children were the centre of their lives.

Robinson was an entrepreneur who co-founded email marketing company Robly and established technology business Retention.com. His wife, Helen Sharp, worked in the ceramics industry and also operated a public relations company.

20-year-old co-pilot among the victims

Another victim was identified as 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras.

Her family confirmed her identity following the tragedy. She had obtained her pilot’s licence at just 17 through a high school aviation programme and had spoken publicly about her ambition to become a commercial pilot.

Her father, Allan Filgueiras, confirmed that she was serving as co-pilot aboard the Learjet.

The aircraft had two crew members and seven passengers on board. All nine people were killed.

Investigators examine final moments of flight

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Preliminary information indicates the aircraft encountered difficult weather conditions shortly before the crash.

According to investigators, the flight crew reported icing, moderate turbulence and precipitation while communicating with air traffic control.

The pilots requested permission to climb to 37,000 feet. Shortly afterwards, the aircraft began losing altitude rapidly.

Air traffic control recordings captured the crew declaring an emergency as the aircraft descended at an alarming rate.

Investigators are also examining evidence suggesting the Learjet may have started breaking apart before hitting the ground.

NTSB board member Tom Chapman said investigators had found indications of structural breakup before impact, with aircraft debris located away from the main crash site.

Weather conditions are expected to be a major focus of the investigation.

Residential area left devastated

The crash occurred near Military Trail in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, creating a large impact crater and triggering a major fire.

Although all nine people aboard the aircraft died, authorities reported no fatalities on the ground.

The disaster also forced residents from a nearby mobile home community to leave their homes, with approximately 600 people affected by the evacuation and relocation efforts.

Investigators are continuing to examine the aircraft, its flight data, weather conditions and final communications with air traffic control to establish what caused the devastating loss of life.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no definitive cause of the crash has been established.
