8 killed, 18 injured in suicide bombing at Syrian mosque
by Egypt Today staff · EgyptTodayCAIRO – 26 December 2025: A terrorist bombing targeted the Imam Ali Mosque in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood of Homs on Friday, according to local media reports.
Initial reports indicate the attack was a suicide bombing carried out during Friday prayers. Syrian state television reported that eight people were killed and 18 others injured, noting that the explosion was caused by improvised explosive devices planted inside the mosque.
The Syrian Ministry of Health said in a statement that emergency and rapid response teams rushed to the scene immediately after the incident. Teams provided first aid and transported the injured to public hospitals for treatment.
The ministry expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Internal security units established a security cordon around the mosque while authorities began investigating and collecting evidence to pursue those responsible. Civil defense teams also worked to rescue the injured, recover bodies, and clear debris from the site.
