WASHINGTON – 22 February 2026: US negotiators are prepared to hold a new round of talks with Iran in Geneva this Friday if Tehran submits a detailed nuclear proposal within the next 48 hours, a senior US official told Axios.

Officials said the diplomatic effort may represent President Donald Trump’s final window for negotiations before considering a large-scale US-Israeli military operation.

The official noted the administration is currently awaiting Iran’s response.

While Trump retains the option to order a strike at any moment, several officials, including advisors Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are urging him to allow more time for diplomacy, according to the report.
