Houthis launches rare missile attack on north Israel, triggering sirens: Reports
by Egypt Today staff · EgyptTodayCAIRO – 23 April 2025: Yemen’s Houthis on Wednesday morning fired a ballistic missile in the north of Israel, a rare target for the movement, causing more than a million people to rush to bomb shelters, according to Israeli reports.
The Israeli army reported that air defenses successfully intercepted the missile.
Sirens were triggered in Haifa and the Western Galilee region besides other surrounding areas and the public could here the explosions due to interceptions.
No direct injuries were reported from the attack but paramedics reportedly treated several people who were injured while seeking shelter.
The Houthis have been firing missiles and drones against Israel since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, in an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Meanwhile, intensive American strikes on Houthis, which started in mid-March, continued on Wednesday with attacks reported in the governorates of Marib, Saada and Hodeidah.
The US strikes on Yemen come in response to Houthis’ attacks on global shipping in the Red Sea, especially Israeli-linked vessels.
