Air ambulance called and one person taken to hospital after crash on notorious 'Beehive Road'

by Sophie Doughty · ChronicleLiveA casualty was taken to hospital after a collision on one of Tyneside's most notorious roads.
Emergency services were called to Hartley Lane, which runs between Whitley Bay and Earsdon and is known locally as the 'Beehive Road', yesterday afternoon.
Crews from both the North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance Service attended the incident. One person was taken to hospital by road.
A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision off Hartley Lane in Seaton Sluice.
"We dispatched one ambulance crew, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader and an officer, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS)
"One patient was taken by road to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for further treatment."
Hartley Lane is a winding road with a number of sharp bends that has become known as an accident blackspot having been the scene of numerous serious collisions.
A spokeswoman for the GNAAS added: "Yesterday our critical care team was activated at 2.16pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Hartley Lane in Whitley Bay.
"We had a paramedic and doctor on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 2.31pm.
"Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient, and the patient was taken to hospital by the NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team."
