A man in his 60s tragically lost his life, becoming the second fatality attributed to Storm Bert after a tree fell on his vehicle. The incident took place on the A34 southbound in Hampshire between Kings Worthy and Winnall at approximately 8am this morning, involving a black Mercedes E350.

Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident, and his next of kin have been notified.

Hampshire Constabulary released a statement saying: "We are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage after a fatal incident on the A34 this morning. Police were called at 7.47am to a report that a tree had fallen on a car on the A34 southbound carriageway, between Kings Worthy and Winnall."

"A driver of a black Mercedes E350 - a man in his 60s - was confirmed deceased at the scene. His family have been informed by our officers. A silver Skoda Kodiaq was also damaged but no other injuries were reported.

"Lengthy lane closures have been in place while emergency services work at the scene and we want to thank motorists for their patience. We would now like to speak to anyone with information about this incident and particularly anyone with relevant dash cam footage."

This follows a tragic incident in the early hours of Saturday morning when a man lost his life after his car 'spun off the road' due to icy conditions and crashed into a wall. The accident occurred just before 1am as temperatures dropped and Storm Bert made its presence felt, reports The Mirror.

The 34 year old, from Bradford, West Yorks, died at the scene after his Renault Captur collided with a stone wall in Shipley, West Yorks. His identity has not been released.

Police continued their investigations at the scene on Saturday amidst heavy snowfall.
