“Lot of nonsense” – President shoots down Crystal Palace rumour at Christmas party

by · Sport Witness

Getafe president Ángel Torres has shot down suggestions that manager José Bordalás could be on the way to Crystal Palace.

Sport cover comments from him today. He was asked about recent reports about Bordalás and a potential move to Selhurst Park.

Several reports this week have indicated that the Getafe is on Crystal Palace’s shortlist. They are reportedly eyeing up the Spanish coach as a replacement for Oliver Glasner.

The Austrian coach’s contract expires at the end of the season. So far there have been no suggestions that his deal will be extended, despite Palace’s clear desire to make that happen.

In fact, some reports have indicated that Glasner has no intention of signing a new deal. That had, reportedly, led Crystal Palace to look at replacements. Bordalás was put at the top of their list and was even ‘seduced’ by the idea of the move.

That was questioned in some corners, given he’s very much the opposite of Glasner. And it seems that his current boss is clearly unconvinced by the rumour as well.

“A lot of nonsense has been said,” he said at Getafe’s traditional Christmas reception.

“That the coach was going to leave, that he’s very happy here and besides, he doesn’t speak English… So why would he go there?”

“Anytime? It depends on how I feel when I wake up,” he added regarding a new deal for Bordalás.

“I’m a man of firm convictions.”
