Young girl dies after incident while swimming in Tipperary river

A young child has sadly died after getting into difficulty while swimming in a Co. Tipperary river.

The child was rushed to Cork University Hospital in a serious condition by Rescue 117 after getting into difficulties in the River Suir, Newcastle, Co Tipperary at about 4:20pm on Friday evening.

The scene was attended by Gardaí and emergency services who provided assistance, reports the Irish Mirror.

Sadly, the girl has since passed away, and authorities will now prepare a report for the Coroner's Court.

Gardaí are continuing their inquiries into the matter.

A representative for the Gardaí told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí and emergency services attended an incident where a female child got into difficulty in the water at River Suir, Newcastle, Co Tipperary at approximately 4:20pm today, 11 July.",

"She was airlifted by Rescue 117 to Cork University Hospital in a serious condition. She has since passed away. A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court. Investigations ongoing."
