The Gardaí investigating the disappearance of a three-year-old child have discovered skeletal remains in north county Dublin.

It was reported that the child, Daniel Aruebose, went missing four years ago and was reported to reside at The Gallery apartments in Donabate.

The discovery of the remains occurred during the garda search of wasteland on Portrane Road in Donabate.

Following the discovery, the scene has been preserved to allow for the State pathologist and a forensic anthropologist to carry out an investigation.

An exhumation is due to occur and the Garda Technical Bureau begin their forensic examination of the area around where the body was found, RTE reports.

A specialist forensic paediatric pathologist is also expected to conduct a post-mortem examination on the child’s remains in order to try and establish the cause of death.

Gardaí are continuing to carry out house-to-house inquiries at the child's last known residence at The Gallery complex.

Aruebose has not been seen for over four years and he would be seven years of age this year.

His disappearance was discovered when the Department of Social Protection alerted Tusla to irregularities in an application for child support payments.

Tusla then contacted Gardaí, who began an investigation and were told that the child had been buried after dying from natural causes.

A search has been underway for over two weeks, with the help of a cadaver dog, which eventually led to the discovery of his remains.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to the public for more information and ask anyone who was a resident in The Gallery Apartments complex in Donabate between July 2019 until today to contact the investigation team.
