EU to hold emergency leaders’ summit as Trump’s Greenland threats grow – POLITICO
· POLITICOBRUSSELS ―The leaders of the European Union’s 27 governments will meet “in the coming days” to discuss a response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to seize Greenland, European Council President António Costa announced late Sunday.
Costa called the extraordinary meeting of the European Council after EU ambassadors huddled in Brussels on Sunday to discuss Trump’s statement on Saturday that he would buy Greenland and punish with tariffs EU countries that stand in his way.
According to an EU official and a diplomat familiar with the planning, the summit is being scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22 . The meeting of leaders, the official said, will be “physical” — requiring leaders to attend in person — rather than a virtual conference call.
