16 dead in Bondi Beach after gunmen fire on Jewish celebration – POLITICO

At least 16 people are dead, among them a 10-year-old girl, after two gunmen opened fire at Sydney’s famed Bondi Beach in an attack authorities said targeted the Jewish community during a major holiday celebration.

One of the shooters, a 50-year-old, was among the dead while the second, his 24-year-old son, is in being treated in hospital, police said Sunday night Brussels time. Thirty-eight people were taken to hospital, among them two police officers, authorities said.

“This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said at a press conference earlier in the day. “An act of evil antisemitism, terrorism, that has struck the heart of our nation.”
