Germany’s embattled leader Merz cancels New York trip amid mounting domestic pressure – POLITICO
· POLITICOChancellor Friedrich Merz will not fly to New York next Tuesday to attend the United Nations General Assembly as planned.
The cancellation comes amid intense discussions about Merz’s political future and a possible change in German leadership following Sunday’s elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin, in which his party is expected to perform poorly.
“Contrary to original plans, the Chancellor will not travel to New York next week, as his presence is required in Berlin,” a German official familiar with the Chancellor’s schedule told POLITICO.
