The mysterious death of actress-model Twisha Sharma has taken another dramatic turn after the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed the anticipatory bail granted to her mother-in-law, former district judge Giribala Singh. The court's decision came after postmortem reports revealed disturbing details hinting at abuse and struggle before Twisha's death.

Court cites seven ante-mortem injuries on Twisha Sharma's body

The 33-year-old was found deceased on May 12, 2026, in her marital home in Bhopal's Katara Hills. The reason for Twisha Sharma's death was reported as suicide, but her bereaved family strongly contested the narrative. They complained about severe dowry harassment, physical and mental torment by Twisha's husband, Samarth Singh, and her in-laws. The suspicion deepened after Giribala Singh made controversial public remarks about Twisha's character and mental health immediately after her death.

During Giribala Singh's recent court hearing, the Madhya Pradesh government told the High Court that Twisha Sharma's postmortem report revealed multiple "ante-mortem injuries", including marks on her head, elbow, and wrist. The state's counsel suggested the marks were consistent with a "scuffle or struggle" before her death, clarifying that the injuries could not have occurred after death or while her body was being brought down.

High Court denies Giribala Singh's anticipatory bail

The court reportedly took serious note of the seven injuries found on Twisha's body, while also denying Girbala's request for anticipatory bail. While her in-laws initially claimed suicide, her family has consistently alleged foul play, dowry harassment, and mental torture. The Madhya Pradesh court has issued a 17-page order on the case. Vacation judge Devnarayan Mishra reportedly said:

"In the light of the factual aspects of the case and the allegations levelled against the respondent (Giribala Singh), the anticipatory bail order dated May 15, 2026 passed by the 10th Additional Sessions Judge, Bhopal for the offences punishable under the Sections 80(2), 85, 3(5) of BNS, 2023 and Sections 3 & 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, is hearby quashed."

Senior advocate Anurag Shrivastava, who is representing Twisha Sharma's family, commented on the court's decision, noting that the victim is finally getting justice. Speaking to PTI, Shrivastava remarked that, given Giribala Singh's decades of experience in judicial service, surrender and cooperation with the CBI are expected of the ex-judge. He was quoted as saying:

"As Giribala was in judicial service for 36 years... if she has any respect towards law, I think wisdom should prevail over her mind, and she should gracefully surrender before the CBI and cooperate with the investigating agency in any further investigation."

The court observed that the allegations against the retired judge were serious enough to warrant custodial investigation. The state further alleged before the High Court that Giribala Singh failed to cooperate with investigators despite repeated notices and was unavailable when police visited her residence during the early stages of the probe. Authorities have also accused her of attempting to shape a public narrative in her favour while allegedly avoiding active cooperation with investigators.

CBI tightens probe into Twisha Sharma's death

The state reportedly informed the court that Twisha was being taunted over dowry, being told repeatedly that the amount her family spent on the wedding was "not enough." Chats recovered during the probe also suggested tension within the household after Twisha's pregnancy. The state clarified that both Giribala Singh and Twisha's husband, Samarth Singh, had "subjected her to cruelty."

Samarth Singh has already been taken into CBI custody, as a Special Investigation Team (SIT) recreated the crime scene at his Bhopal residence earlier this week. The agency has re-registered the FIR naming Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as accused under sections related to cruelty, dowry harassment, and dowry death.

The authorities are still waiting to get their hands on a second autopsy report conducted by a specialised AIIMS Delhi team.
