BREAKING: Tight Security As Yahaya Bello Arrives High Court [Photos]
by George Oshogwe Ogbolu · Naija NewsThe Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja is under heavy security as former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello appears for his arraignment today.
Armed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have taken strategic positions, with all access roads to the court premises secured to ensure order.
Bello, dressed in a white Babanriga and exuding confidence, entered the courtroom amid chants of “Saaki” from his supporters and political aides.
Recall that Yahaya Bello had on Tuesday surrendered himself to the EFCC after reporting at the anti-graft agency headquarters with three of his lawyers.
The FCT High Court is set to hear the case brought by the EFCC against Bello on alleged N110 billion fraud.
Bello was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in April 2024.
He was taken to court on Wednesday morning.
Since filing the charges against the former governor, the commission has not been able to bring him to court for arraignment.
The commission had initially filed 19 charges against Bello, along with his nephews Ali Bello, Dauda Suliman and Abdulsalam Hudu for money laundering offences amounting to over N80bn.
