PDP Turaki Faction Shifts Inaugural NWC Meeting After Violence Erupts At Wadata Plaza
by Enioluwa Adeniyi · Naija NewsThe Turaki-led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday postponed its inaugural National Working Committee meeting after violent clashes erupted at the party’s Wadata Plaza national secretariat in Abuja.
The National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, who eventually gained entry into the embattled complex alongside governors and top party figures, told journalists that the meeting had been rescheduled to Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
He said the decision followed “deliberate attempts by individuals undermining democracy and progress” to disrupt the gathering.
Turaki commended the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for providing what he described as “professional security support,” enabling his team to enter the premises despite earlier resistance.
He said, “We were able to get into the secretariat because of the security provided.
“I thank the FCT Commissioner of Police for keeping his word. The disruption we witnessed today was caused by those who continue to undermine the peace, stability and unity of our party.”
He added that he had pre-alerted the police to the circulation of flyers announcing parallel NEC and Board of Trustees meetings by individuals “no longer recognised by the party.”
Turaki was accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, National Assembly members, former governors, ex-ministers, Board of Trustees members and state chairmen.
He said the turnout demonstrated a united front behind the newly constituted NWC.
Addressing reporters, Turaki insisted the PDP remained committed to restoring stability amid escalating internal wrangling.
“The meeting will hold tomorrow. We are determined to rebuild cohesion and strengthen the party so it can reclaim its place as a national institution,” he said.
The postponement deepens an already volatile leadership crisis that has split the PDP into two rival camps.
The turbulence stems from the party’s expulsion of former national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, a decision fiercely rejected by Wike-aligned elements who insist he remains in office until December.
Turaki’s faction maintains that Anyanwu and his allies ceased to be party officials following Saturday’s national convention in Ibadan.
